Two handed bullwhip cracking

Two handed bullwhip cracking

Here’s a video I found online of me doing some two handed bullwhip cracking (I don’t think I’ve already posted this):

It was taken by my friend James Maxwell a while ago.

Also today I was at my local Tandy Leather to pick up a side of kip and they had some stingray skins on the counter. I picked one up, I’m thinking of using it for the handle of a bullwhip. There will be a little bit of an engineering challenge to attaching and stitching the stingray to the handle, but I think it will end up looking pretty cool!

Cracking w/ James Maxwell

Last weekend James Maxwell was visiting town from Montana and we went to the park for a few hours.  Here’s him doing some arm wraps:

Here’s the pile of bullwhips we were cracking:

And here are some bullwhips that I made for James a bit over a year ago and they’ve held up well!

Above is a 10 foot bullwhip and below is a 4 foot bullwhip.

4 foot 12 plait bullwhip

The bullwhip below is a 6 foot “Maxwell Special” that was made to James’s specifications.

Originally he didn’t want a transition knot, that’s why there isn’t one.  But he asked me to add one in, so I put one in (changed the fall and tightened up the point).

It’s nice to see how my whips hold up over time.  I think the “Maxwell Special” bullwhip is almost 2 years old and is still cracking great!
