Braided Rawhide!

Braided Rawhide!

I’m back from performing last week at the Main Street Show at the Pendleton Round Up!  One of my favorite things to do while in Pendleton, Oregon is to check out the braided rawhide at Hamley’s!  Here’s some of what they had:

If you are passing through Pendleton it’s worth a stop at Hamley’s to check it out!

Plaited Leather from the Road!

Plaited Leather from the Road!

Most of this summer I’ve been on the road performing with my show which is why I’ve been bad about writing new posts for this blog (however orders are going out in a timely fashion!).  On a recent trip from Seattle to California I came across a few plaited leather items.

First while visiting Folsom Prison in Folsom, CA in the museum they had a plaited leather blackjack / sap:

Then while I was performing at a fair in Yuba City, CA while I was in the fair office I was flipping though the July 2013 issue of American Cowboy and notice there was an article on how to crack a whip:

Finally on my way home in Weed, CA at a gas station I noticed the clerk had a cool plaited wristband.  It was made by her son:

Currently I’m in the Seattle area performing at the Evergreen State Fair in Monroe, WA and I’m at that fair until 9/1/13.  My whip act is part of my show while up there, if you are in the area come up and catch the show!  After the Evergreen State Fair I’m off for a week, then I’m heading down to perform as part of the Main Street Show at the Pendleton Round Up in Oregon from 9/11/13 to 9/14/13.

Pendleton, Oregon has an awesome tack shop called Hamleys.  Tim George makes rawhide quirts, bosals, etc there, here’s a sample of his work: http://www.hamleyco.com/webstore/SearchResult.aspx?CategoryID=163  and here’s some bad cellphone pics I took about 3 years ago while passing through: http://bullwhips.org/?p=2971

Hamley’s

Last week I was on the road performing and I drove through Pendleton Oregon.  One of the cool things about Pendleton is that Hamley’s is there.  They have some of the top rawhide braider’s working there.  It’s always fun to stop by!

Every time I stop by there it makes me wish I have a years to devote to really learn  how to braid rawhide.

Hamley’s in Pendleton Oregon

Hamley’s in Pendleton Oregon

Yesterday while driving from Kennewick, WA to Boise, ID I stopped in Pendleton Oregon.  A long time ago Joe Strain had shown me pictures of some braided rawhide that they had on display at Hamley’s (a western store and a steakhouse).

I took some pictures with my cellphone camera, so they aren’t very good:

If I remember correctly the rawhide was plaited by a guy named Timothy George.
