Deluxe Beginner’s Bullwhips…

Deluxe Beginner’s Bullwhips…

Right now I’m working on making a pair of Deluxe Beginner’s Bullwhips.  I don’t know if I’ll sell them as a pair, but for fun I’m making them as a pair!  So far I’ve got the cores finished:

And the bellies and overlays cut out:

Hopefully I’ll get these finished today or tomorrow!

Bullwhip Teaching Gig

Just today it was reported that Brittany Spears is looking for someone to teach her to use a bullwhip for her next video.  The casting note says:

“Looking for a girl or guy who knows how to handle and use a bull whip. Must be a professional at using a bullwhip. Do not submit if you think you know how to use it. Only submit if you truly know how to use it and are a pro at it. We will be taping your skills at using a bullwhip and will remember you if you are not that good and was submitted for this. Whoever is booked will teach Britney how to do the whip and we will use inserts of the booked talent using the whip.”

If that’s something you can do look into it!

Deluxe Beginners Bullwhip

Yesterday I finished a seven foot deluxe beginners bullwhip:

bullwhip for beginners

I’ve also got an eight foot deluxe beginners bullwhip that’s almost finished, it just needs the knots.

You may or may not have noticed that I usually make these in batches of at least two.  One thing I’ve learned about  making these cheaper bullwhips is that for them to be profitable for me I need to keep my time commitment in them under two hours per whip.  One easy way to reduce the time I put into them is to cut out more than one at a time.  While it only may save a few minute each step doing them in batches, it all adds up!

Deluxe Budget Bullwhip

Deluxe Budget Bullwhip

This morning I cut out the belly and overlay for an 8 foot Deluxe Budget Bullwhip.

I know what you are thinking, “What’s the difference between a Deluxe and the Regular Budget bullwhip?”  Well basically the deluxe has a plaited belly in it.  That plaited belly will add density to the core and a bit more action to the whip.

I don’t know  how much time I’ll have to do the strand prep and any plaiting today, once again I have a full performing schedule this weekend.
