Bullwhip Pair Progress

Bullwhip Pair Progress

Yesterday I got a bit of work in on the pair of bullwhips that I’m working on.  I cut out the overlays and did all the strand prep early in the day.  Later in the day I braided both of the bellies.

Today I should have time to get started on braiding the overlays.

One thing that I think is nice about these bullwhips is that the crack really well and I’m able to make them at an entry level price.  Part of the reason that I’m able to make them for such a low price is that I only make them when I can find a suitable leather at a very low price.   That’s the reason that you can only buy them when I’ve got them in stock, I don’t really make them to order.  You are welcome to email me and ask if I can make some when I don’t have any in stock and if I have some suitable leather kicking around I’ll gladly make them!  Just don’t take it personally if I don’t have any good cheap leather and can’t make them when you want one.  That’s why I suggest that if you are interested in one ordering one of these you do it when you see that I have them in stock.

Budget Bullwhip

Budget Bullwhip

This morning I put the knots on and test cracked a 5 foot budget bullwhip.

bullwhip

This has a 4 plait leather overlay, red latigo fall and polypro cracker.   I had some fun this morning swinging the bullwhip around in my living room, this bullwhip has a great crack!  It’s listed on my IN STOCK whips page.

Now that all of my in progress projects have been completed I can start some new projects.  I’m planning on starting a few 5 foot 8 plait kangaroo bullwhips.

Another Budget Signal Whip

Another Budget Signal Whip

Last night I finished up the last of the batch of three signal whips I started a week or so ago.  The first two were 4 feet long and this one is 3 1/2 feet long.

These budget signal whips all crack great!  There is only one of the 4 foot left and this 3  1/2 foot is available on my IN STOCK whips page.

Today’s project is to finish up a beginners bullwhip that I started a  couple of weeks ago.  I’m trying to finish up all my half started projects before I start anything new.

Deluxe Budget Bullwhip

Deluxe Budget Bullwhip

This morning I cut out the belly and overlay for an 8 foot Deluxe Budget Bullwhip.

leather bullwhip

I know what you are thinking, “What’s the difference between a Deluxe and the Regular Budget bullwhip?”  Well basically the deluxe has a plaited belly in it.  That plaited belly will add density to the core and a bit more action to the whip.

I don’t know  how much time I’ll have to do the strand prep and any plaiting today, once again I have a full performing schedule this weekend.

Red Latigo Bullwhip

Red Latigo Bullwhip

Yesterday I braided the overlay of a bullwhip made from Red Latigo:

bullwhip

The hide that I made this out of was a bit thicker than I wanted.  I had ordered 8 / 10 ounce and the invoice is marked 9 / 11 ounce.  While they are basically the same thickness, the slight bit thinner would have been nice.

While making this whip I thinned down the leather on the last about half of the whip, then thinned the last quarter a bit more.  That let me get a tighter and smoother braid near the point.

The next one of these that I do I will probably thin down the entire lengths of all the strands.  That will give me a smoother profile on the whip.  However all that splitting will add to the cost, since I intended to  use this side of red latigo for budget bullwhips.

Later today I’ll probably do the knots on this bullwhip.

Also don’t forget my 29 foot 2 inch bullwhip being auctioned on ebay has two days left: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&Item=220619008201

Side of Hide and More

Side of Hide and More

Yesterday UPS delivered a side of Red Latigo:

redhide

This side of Red Latigo is huge!  I was going to try to make some 4 plait bullwhips out of it.  If I do that I’ll probably have to thin it down a bit, it’s pretty thick.

Yesterday I also finished making an 8 foot budget bullwhip:

It’s an 8 foot 4 plait leather  and this bullwhip is listed for sale on my IN STOCK whips page.

Finally here are pictures of six stockwhip handles that I got last week from David Morgan.

I had gotten a few of them a few years ago, and tried to get them between then and now, but they were sold out.  While they were going through some old boxed they found some and I took them…They were his last six!

Now I’m off to go sit in traffic on my way to my morning show today.

Budget Bullwhip

Budget Bullwhip

Right now I’m working on three budget bullwhips.  Two of them have the insides cut out and attached, and the overlays ready to plait.  The third is finished:

Hopefully I’ll have the time to get both of these done before friday when I head down to Oregon to perform and teach my original ideas at a convention for magicians.

Today I manged to braid the overlay of a 4 plait budget bullwhip and tie it’s knot:

I also shellac’d the 4.5 foot 12 plait kangaroo bullwhip:

This four and a half foot bullwhip’s got a nice crack to it!  At first I wasn’t sure about how much I liked how it starts out as two tone, but then I dropped the red strands and the last 1/3 of the bullwhip is just black…however that look is growing on me.

Both of these bullwhips are available on my IN STOCK whips page.
