Bullwhip test Cracks!

Bullwhip test Cracks!

Here’s some video of some bullwhips that I took out to do some  test cracks with today:

The two videos above are both of the Beginners Bullwhips, and as you can see they crack well! I’m thinking I might make pairs of 6 or 6.5 foot beginners bullwhips for people to try out two handed bullwhip cracking (with spending a fortune on a pair of bullwhips!)

Australian Bullwhip

Australian Bullwhip

Last night I put the knots on the Australian Bullwhip that I was working on.  I broke a strand near the point of the whip, so I shortened it from six feet to 5 1/2 feet.  I didn’t want to add in a strand right at the fall hitch.   I still need to give it a coat of shellac.

5.5 foot bullwhip

I threw this bullwhip a couple of times on my deck and it cracks well.  I’m hoping for better weather so I can take it to the park and give it a workout later today.

16 plait bullwhip

I really am liking how the 16 plait looks and hopefully I’ll be doing more work in 16 plait in the future!

Here’s the almost finished stockwhip:

24 X 12 plait stock whip

24 plait stockwhip handle
12 plait stockwhip thong

This stock whip is 5 1/2 feet and the thong is 12 pliat.  The stockwhip’s handle starts as a 12 plait and finished as a 24 plait at the heel knot.

I gave it a few test throws on my deck and it’s not cracking quite right.  I’m going to take a few inches off the fall to see if that fixed the problem.   If that doesn’t then I may have to try either adding weight to the handle of shortening the thong a bit.

I still need to add a knot at the keeper on the thong and shellac this whip.
